Cleantech

The development of alternative energy is rapidly accelerating in Lithuania in recent years. The country's government is focused on promoting the growth of the renewable energy sector (hydro, wind, biomass and solar), aiming at an ambitious goal of reaching a 23% RES share by 2020. As a result, the Lithuanian clean energy technologies are gradually gaining a more significant share of the total country's exports. Several Lithuanian companies are launching their photovoltaic cell production and module assembly plants at the Visoriai Information Technology Park, with the supply capacity of 120 MW.

Attractive feed-in tariffs

Following the best European practices, Lithuania uses the feed-in tariffs to promote the development of its renewable energy sector. Targeting the most cost-efficient renewable energy production, the country's National Control Commission for Prices and Energy sets special purchase prices for green electricity (FIT), which fuels the growth of new businesses in this dynamic sector.

Solar energy cluster

In its pursuit to foster the development of the cleantech industry, the Lithuanian government has provided grants for many companies. The grants enable the companies to implement experimental (c-Si) photovoltaic cell production project and also contribute towards the formation of a solar energy cluster in Lithuania. Precizika-MET SC, a part of Hexagon global measurement technologies group, has pioneered the solar industry development in Lithuania by launching an Industrial Photovoltaic Laboratory in Vilnius in 2010. BOD Group, Baltic Solar Energy and Baltic Solar Solutions will also construct a 25,000 sq m facility for solar cell and solar module production lines. Some 500 new jobs are expected to be created by 2016–2018 along with total investments reaching EUR 58 million and industry's share amounting to EUR 434 million in the Lithuanian export portfolio.
