Trade statistics 

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on the final data obtained from customs declarations and Intrastat reporting data, Lithuania’s exports in 2010 amounted to LTL 15.64 billion, imports – LTL 17.67 billion. Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 2.03 billion, which is by 51 per cent more than in 2009. Statistics on trade with the EU countries were adjusted after VAT returns data had been received.

In 2010, compared to 2009, exports and imports increased by 32.7 and 34.5 per cent respectively. Mineral products excluded, exports and imports grew by 29.1 and 26.5 per cent respectively. An increase in exports was influenced by a 48.3 per cent increase in exports of petroleum products, 46.6 per cent – land vehicles, 40.9 per cent – boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, in imports – by a  50.2 per cent increase in imports of crude oil, 61.5 per cent – land vehicles, 39.4 per cent – electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof.

In 2010, the key partners of Lithuania in exports were Russia (15.7 per cent), Germany (9.9 per cent), Latvia (9.4 per cent), and Poland (7.7 per cent), in imports – Russia (32.6 per cent), Germany (10.5 per cent), Poland (8.9 per cent), and Latvia (6.3 per cent).

In 2010, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (23.6 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (10.4 per cent), products of the chemical or allied industries (8.1 per cent), in imports – within mineral products (33.3 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (12.6 per cent), products of the chemical or allied industries (11 per cent).

Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin in 2010, compared to 2009, grew by 29.5 per cent, mineral products excluded – by 23.7 per cent. The increase in exports of goods of Lithuanian origin was influenced by a 47.3 per cent increase in exports of petroleum products, 28.9 per cent – plastics and articles thereof, 44.8 per cent – wood and articles of wood. In 2010, the largest share in exports of goods of Lithuanian origin fell within mineral products (33.4 per cent), plastics and articles thereof (7.5 per cent), furniture (7.1 per cent), fertilisers (5.4 per cent), wood and articles of wood (4.3 per cent), and milk and dairy products (3.8 per cent). Goods of Lithuanian origin were mainly exported to Germany (12.5 per cent of the total exports of goods of Lithuanian origin), Poland (8.8 per cent), the Netherlands (7.7 per cent), Latvia (7.3 per cent), United Kingdom (6.9 per cent), and Russia (5.1 per cent).
